Hi there! Thanks for watching. So I make my Papaya Salad on the sweeter side. I like My Papaya Very Sweet, Sour, and Salty.
Papaya Salad is very Popular within the Lao, Thai, Cambodian, Hmong, and Mien Community.
This version is more of the Lao Style Thum Mak Hoong or Thai Isaan Style Som Tum. Due to the use of Pa Dek (Un Filtered Fermented Fish Sauce) or in Thai they call it Pla-Ra.
Recipe:
1/2 Tsp of Crab Paste
1/4 Tsp of Shrimp Paste
1 Garlic Clove
Desired amount of Chili Peppers
2 Cubes of Palm Sugar
1 Cup Slice Tomatoes
1 Tsp of Msg (optional)
2 Tbs of Sugar
2 Tbs of Lime
1/3 of a Cup of Fish Sauce
1 Tbs of Tamarind Paste
3 Tbs of Fermented Fish Sauce
4 Cups of Shredded Papaya Strands
Adjust to taste or to your likings. Everyone makes it different! If you like yours less salty, use less fish sauce and Pa Dek.
If you like it less Sour, use less Tamarind Paste and Limes. If you want it less sweet, use less Palm Sugar, and Sugar.
The salted crab is more on the salty and sweet side. So don’t use this if you don’t like your Papaya to sweet and salty.
